Eagle Faithful begin to gather before the game in Georgetown.

Knights? Didn't we play some Knights just a few hours ago?

Once an Eagle, always an Eagle.
But once a Knight's enough!

Eagle outfielder Airrik Martinez (left) and 2nd baseman Martin Salinas in the top of the 1st.

The throw from Eagle outfielder Derek Evans (far right) is on the money, but it's not in time to allow 3rd baseman Daniel Fabian to make the tag on the sliding runner.

MY PLATE! The mud flies as Eagle catcher Charles Morton tags an incoming runner on a just-in-time throw from Fabian.

An errant throw to 1st leaves Evans as a 1st-inning Eagle base runner.

Evans takes a 1st-inning lead at 2nd base.

A swing and a miss. Rangel at the plate in the 1st inning.

"I wonder what he was thinking ..." Shortstop Jason Rangel ponders a call that seems to have come out of the Blue.

OUCH! Eagle catcher Charles Morton watches with more than a passing interest as the Knight catcher takes one in the visor ... uh, mask.

Outfielder Jordan Treviņo makes a 2nd-inning plate appearance

Daniel Leal, shown here at 3rd base, entered as a courtesy runner for Eagle pitcher Deleon.

Deleon checks the runner at 1st.

Deleon pitched a complete game and gave up no earned runs.

Richard Rogalewski reached 1st base with a 2nd-inning base on balls.

Deleon drew a walk in the 2nd inning.

Eagle 2nd baseman Martin Salinas clasps the ball in his glove after collaborating with shortstop Rangel for a 6-4 fielder's choice that ended the 3rd inning.

NOT AN EAGLE. This 70 year old Lockheed 10 Electra emerged from the gray skies to buzz the field several times during the game.

Eagle shortstop Rangel and a Knight base runner who stole 2nd base.

Eagle 2nd baseman Martin Salinas grounds out to the Harker Heights shortstop in the bottom of the 4th.

Treviņo was hit by a pitch in this trip to the plate and became an important 5th inning base runner.

Matt Hohertz took over at 1st base for the Eagles and bats here in the bottom of the 5th.

The 1st baseman's foot is on the bag, but without the ball (lower right of picture) it means nothing. Evans is safe at 1st and goes on to take 2nd on the error. Notice Fabian rounding 3rd on his way to becoming the Eagles' first run of the ballgame.

Airrik Martinez sprints to 1st on the initial leg of his 2-RBI 5th inning 2-bagger. Treviņo and Evans scored as a result of this extra-base hit, sending the Eagles to a 3-2 lead they would not relinquish.

Outfielder Derek Evans crosses the plate for the Eagles' go-ahead run in the bottom of the 5th inning.

Eagle 1st baseman Matt Hohertz stands ready as pitcher Kevin Deleon bluffs the runner back to the bag.

Eagle 3rd baseman Daniel Fabian tags the Harker Heights lead runner for a 6th-inning out on a fielder's choice throw from shortstop Rangel.

Evans bats in the bottom of the 6th.

Eagle righthander Kevin Deleon was the game's winning pitcher.

As John Madden has said, "Winning is the best deodorant." Sure, the Eagles had a few rough spots in this game, but this time it smelled a lot better.

The pitching of Kevin Deleon wasn't overpowering. He allowed 5 hits, while recording 3 strikeouts. But there's no question he got the job done. The Eagle defense played heads-up ball and played as a team, working together to throw out the lead runner no fewer than 8 times in the course of the ballgame.

Four Eagles had base hits. Airrik Martinez led the list with his 2-RBI double in the 5th inning. Evans, Fabian and Treviņo each had a single.

         Smells good.

Postgame handshakes.

Victorious Eagles come off the field.
