Remember When…

As the baseball season comes to an end, I like to take this opportunity to thank the Varsity baseball players, coaches and parents for giving Jason, Sandy and myself a chance to be part of the Akins baseball family. It has been a very quick 4 years but we have enjoyed the chance to be with old friends (the Hohertz’s, Martinez’s, Davila’s and Morton’s) and to make new ones (the Guerra’s, Stewart’s, Salinas’s and Hernandez’s). I like to thank all of you who have contributed your time and effort to try to make the baseball program a success. A personal thanks to Cheryl, Ralph and Melinda, Craig and Laurie for the countless volunteer hours they put in and to Bob for the excellent web site he’s maintained for 4 years. Thanks to Coach Velasquez and Coach Riojas for teaching Jason the game of baseball and for giving him a chance to play with young men of character, ambition and a competitive drive. Sandy and I would like to also congratulate all the parents of these young men for those values, which they instilled in them and for the respect they have for those values.

Though our record does not reflect the success of the team. I believe that success cannot just be measured in wins and losses but also in the life lessons our kids learn from playing the game of baseball. I believe that in this respect the program has had success. We wish continued success for the graduating seniors of 2005 and future success to the returning and upcoming Varsity players. We wish the program all the best and hope to have the opportunity to stay in touch and talk about the good times when our sons played together and say remember when…

    Thank you,

    Robert, Sandy, Kelsey, and Jason

P.S. A special thanks to a young man for giving us a chance to meet an extraordinary person with outstanding courage and character. Jason and I are proud to call you a friend and wish you all the best.

    God Bless…Go Marine…

BATTING CAGE LIGHTS

I would like to thank the following people for their
help in putting lights up in the batting cages.

Ralph Guerra (Daniel-JV)
Craig Hohertz (Matt-Varsity)
Tim Grajczyk (Bennie-Freshman)
Ray Flores (Marcus-Varsity)
Mario Rangel-uncle (Jason-Varsity)

Without their time and "expertise" this would not have been
done in time for our kids to use this season. When you
see them, please thank them for taking their weekends
and helping our players have the type of facilities
they deserve.
